Styling a Kimono Two Ways For Summer
Today I am styling a kimono two ways for summer. One outfit formula is casual and the other is a little dressier. A kimono is a good light-weight layer for warm weather and makes a great outfit completer!
TIPS FOR STYLING KIMONOS
- Since kimonos often have a bold pattern, I recommend keeping the rest of your outfit solid in color.
- Be sure your kimono isn’t too oversized or voluminous for your body type, especially if you are petite. (You may need to size down.)
- Kimonos look best when paired with slim-fitting bottoms.
- Pair kimonos with form-fitting tanks or tees.

Casual Kimono Outfit Formula
Kimono + Tank + Denim Shorts + Flat Sandals + Straw Hat + Statement Earrings

This is a look I threw together recently for a pool party. Pairing kimonos and denim shorts is trending this summer, so I thought I’d try styling an outfit that way with pieces from my closet. I purchased this kimono from Glamour Farms Boutique and unfortunately it is sold out. If you are looking for a kimono, I recommend checking this site often. The boutique gets new stock in daily, but items like kimonos usually sell out quickly. Since I am petite, I always purchase size small or xs/small in kimonos.
My tank is an inexpensive basic (under $6) that is great for layering under kimonos and cardigans. I purchased it in four colors for summer and am wearing it here in a regular medium. If you are looking for a budget friendly flat sandal, I recommend the cross-strap sandals I am wearing above. I have the mustard color, and they are available in four additional colors.
I’ve heard to always shop your closet first. For this look, I actually shopped my husband’s hats and found this cute fedora! I linked a similar (women’s) option above. I love the style it adds to the outfit and the shade it provides to my face. The pink earrings add a pretty pop of color and texture to the outfit.

This was my church outfit last week. I just switched the shorts out for white jeans and added a wedge sandal to dress up the look.
My second son joined me for this photo. He just finished kindergarten and is looking forward to lots of summertime fun!
